What is a DEB-ID, and do online students need one?

A DEB-ID is a unique learner ID that UGC-DEB requires for admission to online and distance programmes. It does not mean a course is approved.

Yes. A DEB-ID is a unique learner ID that you must create to get admission to an online or open and distance learning programme. UGC-DEB uses it to make sure learners join programmes of recognised institutions.

How to create one

  1. Go to the DEB-ID page on the UGC-DEB portal.
  2. Check your APAAR (ABC) ID details first. The portal asks you to correct any mistake in your APAAR card before you create the DEB-ID.
  3. Follow the current steps on the portal and keep the DEB-ID safe. The university will ask for it at admission.
What this does not prove: a DEB-ID is an admission requirement. It does not mean a particular course is approved. Check the course, mode and session separately in the online and distance finder.
