Is a university study centre or franchise legitimate?

A centre that uses a university's name is not necessarily an authorised study centre. Ask the university to confirm the centre in writing, and check that the course and location are allowed.

What to check

  1. Write to the university, using the contact details on its official website, and ask whether the centre is authorised for your course and year.
  2. Check where the university may teach. A state university's area normally ends at its state border, and deemed universities need approval for each off-campus centre. Verify Campus shows this on each university's report.
  3. For online and distance courses, check the programme on the UGC-DEB portal and read its current notices on study centres.
Red flags: the centre will not give you written authorisation, or asks you to pay into a personal bank account.
