Search the university's exact name on the UGC's official list of universities. Then check the UGC fake-university list too. Not appearing on the fake list does not, by itself, prove that an institution is recognised.
Step by step
- Open the UGC list of universities, or search on Verify Campus, which copies it.
- Match the full name, state and category (central, state, private or deemed). Fake institutions often use a name one word away from a real one.
- Check the UGC fake-university list.
- If you are joining a college, find the university it is affiliated to, check that university, and confirm the affiliation with the university itself.
What this does not prove: UGC recognition of the university does not mean every course is approved. Online and distance courses, and professional courses such as law, medicine and B.Ed, need their own approvals.
Quick check: search the exact name yourself. Do not rely on an agent's message, a logo or a screenshot.
